  1. Project - International Recruiting
Concept #1 - Attracting Top International Students
I absolutely agree with you on the ideas raised by your team vis-a-vis attracting top international students. As a foreign student myself, I concur that an improved website and better global outreach could help Owen achieve this concept. However, the biggest constraint would be a financial constraint. As of now, Owen (unlike many other top business schools) does not have a system set up to provide loans to international students. So despite a better and more improved website, this financial constraint could cause many talented and top-quality international students to choose other business schools over Owen. However, Christie St. John (New Director of Admissions) is currently working to fix this constraint.

  2. Feedback - Concept 4: Experiences
I really like this idea! I think international students would appreciate real life experiences rather than hearing about them or seeing a presentation on Nashville. One thing that may help, is involving current students (international and non-international) in these events. You could possible turn this into a discover weekend for internationals.

  3. Concept 2:

I think tying being able to return home to find a job with Owen when recruiting international students is vital. I can only imagine gauging my career prospects after attending school in a different country. Knowing that the school I am attending has a plan or other process set up to specifically help people like me would really mean a lot in my school decision.

Something I notice about our international students is that they seem to be concentrated in Operations and Finance. These are two wonderful areas of study, but I think C4 could one step further: Owen could begin promoting jobs at home in Marketing, HOP, and Strategy to recruit more international students in those areas, too. We're currently missing out on a lot of great minds in these areas from an international perspective.

  4. International Recruiting Concept #4
This concept seems strong in that it could paint a clearer picture of the actual day-to-day experience international students could expect to have at Owen. A system for gathering inputs, like student interviews, photo/video content, Nashville housing, entertainment, job market info, would be necessary and there would need to be money and time invested in the system. Another constraint this option faces is difficulty in communicating the availability and benefit of this "Day in the Life" content to students who live in far away places with varying access to technology and different research school research tactics. A suggestion I offer is to add elements of other concepts to enhance this option. For example, provide the contact info of all of select international students featured in the "Day in the Life" content so that prospective students can reach out to them to hold informational interviews. Also, tying to concept 1, include "Day in the Life" information on the Owen website in a specific section dedicated to recruiting top international students.

  5. Career plan / assistance concept #2: While this is certainly an issue that all Owen students struggle with and one that needs to be addressed, I question whether this would improve the attraction of all international students or just a select group who want to stay in the US. My experience has been that about half the international students will return to their previous companies in their home country and that the other half will attempt to find company sponsors here in the US. This process would start with the CMC identifying for the students who wish to stay a list of companies that recruit through Vanderbilt that sponsor international students. Prior to taking this step, though, a survey should be submitted to current international students to determine what is most important - that way you can have a ranking of what to focus on during your project. Constraints to be mindful of - organization, society, and industry.

  6. Concept 1 + 4: I suggest doing both if possible. Having more concrete information displayed on the Owen website, as opposed to other websites/message boards, offers credibility and legitimacy. It is also an accessible avenue for students around the world to learn more, so it has a wide reach. In addition to using the website, having current Owen international students share their experiences with prospective international students is a nice supplement to what they can read on the website. Erin's idea of a Discover Weekend for internationals is a great way to achieve this.

  7. Concept 4: I think this is a great idea, and it's something that can easily be accomplished. Both through the Owen marketing materials, the Owen website, and through OwenBloggers, it would be easy to incorporate "Day-in-the-Life" stories from international students to give prospectives a clear understanding of what the actual student experience is.

  8. Concept 2 - I really like the idea of creating a better system to help international students plan their future. One thing I would worry about though, I would think through a system to better keep international students engaged both here and abroad. Domestically it seems fairly straight-forward, but internationally, I would try to build a better system to maintain the alumni network and engage alumni better.

  9. Concept 1: Improve website and expand other efforts to search may be attract more students. Since Vanderbilt is not very well-known in some countries so it might good if students can learn more about the universities. If the website can differentiate our school from other with something that can attract student would be good. Making Owen name to be well-known in those countries is also important.

  10. Concept 2

I like the idea of focusing on career opportunities for international students. Given the many countries represented, it could be difficult to establish networks that are consistent from year to year. Also, alumni would be great resources after graduation, but prospective students would need to get in touch with these alumni prior to applying in order to sell them on going to Owen. It may be helpful to coordinate between the CMC and Admissions and create events in those countries that get prospective students connected prior to applying.

  11. Concept 3
I think a great way to attract top international students is using current students or alumni as Owen ambassadors. The ambassador should be assigned their country of origin.

  12. Concept #2 certainly seems like it could contribute to Owen's ability to attract top international talent. That said, building a strong alumni network requires a prolonged and persistent effort. How do you plan to execute on this and measure your success within the time constraints (end of mod)?
