  1. Project - Marketing Photo Library
    Concept #5 - Basic Library
I particularly like the idea of letting students submit pictures. The CMC tried something similar this summer with the Photo Contest and students took really beautiful pictures, which are now hung on the wall of the CMC for all to see. Question: Who will be responsible for maintaining the library/database?

  2. Feedback: Concept 3- The tablet idea is futuristic and in keeping with the times. The storage in the cloud can help reduce costs and ensure redundancy of the data. Limiting photos to 10 per event gives the viewer a brief and painless view of the event without going through 100's of photos. Flickr is a intuitive and easy to use.

  3. Feedback Concept #5 - Basic Library
Similarly to Dammy, I really like the idea of students submitting pictures. I think with student content prospective students can get a better sense of how real life is at Owen. However, the downfall is monitoring the content and maintaining a prestigious image. I think you could get a group of students to monitor the site. They can also reach out to peers for content when the library is low.

  4. Concept #5 - Basic Library. I really like this idea. I think by having the students submit images they will feel more involved and have more buy-in. The biggest issue I see with this, though, is monitoring hte quality of the images as well as making sure that the images that students submit are good enough to include in the library.

  5. Concept 5 - From what I understand the number of pictures on file is quite large. I think the idea of saving only those that are good is helpful in this effort. I also think the purchase of a professional database would be helpful in indexing images. I know Flicker is used now, but I really don't think it's a great platform for looking at pictures. In terms of student content, I really like this idea and there is a general effort to encourage students to capture their own events (but tough to get submissions). Since most students take pictures with their phones, I think this could be a challenge in getting content that is acceptable for the marketing purposes and use on the the Owen website. However, if order to encourage students to submit pictures maybe Marketing could sponsor some photo contests throughout the year that would increase interest and awareness.

  6. Concept 4:

This concept seems like you are pushing responsibility out to multiple groups (club presidents, professors, event specific photogs, undergraduate/hired editor/assimilator, etc.). I like the idea of sharing responsibility, but I wonder if the photo library would be skewed towards the photo taking enthusiasts and miss some of the better events. As mentioned before in other concerns, would hiring an undergrad (or any student outside of Owen) be able to sort/label the submitted photos?

  7. Concept #5: I like the idea of keeping this simple. My understanding is that this database is quite large. Keeping only the highest quality pictures and sorting by date and event seems like a great way to keep things organized and easily accessible. My questions would be in terms of opening the access to all faculty and staff- will everyone have the ability to delete, add and change photos or will this function be owned by a single individual?

  8. Concept 4: Like Brian above, I think the idea of distributing responsibility would be an excellent idea. Granting access to the multiple parties and distributing responsibility makes it more of a school wide system. Maybe I'm out of the loop on this, why would the marketing department be a constraint? If they are the main constraint, is there a reason that they don't currently actively manage the database?

  9. Concept 5:
I think is almost the same idea of the concept 4, but it is a good idea. My feedback would be that everyone can upload photos, but only the "uploader" can modify that photo, nobody else can change that photo (only the manager or responsible of the library). For doing easy the search of photos, it will be necessary to tag each photo with members photo, event and place.

  10. Concept 5: I love the idea of student-generated content. I feel like allowing students to submit high-quality and appropriate pictures would also allow for higher engagement and a larger database of great photos. I also think you might get students to submit additional pictures if they knew that they would be seen by prospective students/employers/fellow classmates. Also, as someone mentioned above, the internship photo contest by the CMC generated some fantastic submissions. Having additional contests of this nature could produce some amazing photos!

  11. Concept 3, Tablet Media:
I think you have a lot of good ideas here but it seems like you're trying to do too much with this concept. I'd pick the top 2 or 3 and then run with those ideas instead of trying to implement all of them half heartedly or implementing 2 or 3 really well. Some of these are low hanging fruit like the best pictures from each event and only keeping the pictures on the website for a year. I think just these 2 or 3 ideas would really improve the marketing photo library. Try and narrow it down to your favorite and then go from there.

  13. Concept 5
It would be redundant of comments about concept 5. But I really like this idea. It would reduce the work load to manage the materials by deleting less-likely-to-be-used materials while using other available resources to create a rich database.

  14. Concept 4: This is my favorite option. I like the idea of the photography library being upkept and trimmed down to the bare necessities. If you think of all the photographs taken throughout the year and multiply that by the number of years that have been recorded - you have a lot of photographs. With that in mind, the clubs' access to the Owen photographs could lead to more utilization of the images. Which just makes sense.
